CloudAlly uses three status indicators to let you know how each backup job has performed. This article explains what each status means, what can cause a Partially Succeeded result, and when you should take action.
Backup Status Overview
| Status | Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Successful | Green dot | All data was backed up without any issues. |
| Partially Succeeded | Orange dot | Most data was backed up successfully, but some items could not be captured in that run. |
| Failed | Red dot | The backup job did not complete. No data was captured in that run. |
What Does Partially Succeeded Mean?
A Partially Succeeded status means that CloudAlly successfully backed up the majority of your data, but was unable to capture certain individual items during that backup run. This is different from a Failed status — your data is still being protected.
Common causes of a Partially Succeeded result include:
- Individual files that were open or locked at the time of the backup
- Permission changes on specific files or folders
- Temporary connectivity issues with Microsoft or Google during the backup window
- Items that exceed size or format limitations
- Recently deleted or moved items that were in scope at the time the job started
Do I Need to Take Action?
An occasional Partially Succeeded result is generally nothing to be concerned about. CloudAlly will attempt to back up any missed items in the next scheduled run, and your overall data protection remains in place.
You should raise a support ticket if:
- The Partially Succeeded status is recurring across multiple consecutive backups
- A large number of items are failing consistently
- The status changes from Partially Succeeded to Failed
To see exactly which items were missed, click into the backup job in CloudAlly and review the failure details log. This will show you which files or services could not be backed up and the specific error message for each.
