CloudAlly lets you export your backed-up data out of the platform, either as a direct download or straight into your own cloud storage. This article sets out the export formats available for each Microsoft 365 workload, where the data can be sent, and the options available when exporting.
Export formats by workload
| Workload | Export format |
|---|---|
| Exchange | Outlook-compatible PST. A full mailbox export covers Emails, Contacts, Tasks, Calendars and Notes. |
| Teams / Groups | .EML or .PST |
| OneDrive | Native file formats, delivered as a .zip |
| SharePoint | Native file formats, delivered as a .zip |
Export destinations
Data can be exported as a direct download (zip), or sent straight to your own cloud storage:
- Amazon S3
- Azure Blob
- Box.com
- Dropbox
- S3-compatible storage
- Google Cloud Platform
Export options
- Point in time: export from the latest backup or any specific historical backup date.
- Include deleted items: optionally include items that were deleted from the live service.
- Chunk size (OneDrive / SharePoint): choose 1GB or 20GB chunks for large exports.
- Notification: you receive an email with a download link (or confirmation) once the export completes.
Exporting everything (offboarding)
You can export each workload yourself from the portal, or request a full assisted bulk extraction run by CloudAlly/OpenText (a chargeable one-off service). If you are leaving the service, export your data before deleting the account. Once an account is deleted, the data is purged after approximately five working days. Backups are kept with unlimited retention while your subscription is active, so historical data remains exportable for as long as you are a customer.
